MAIN FUNCTONS

 

      The best self tanning agent for gaining a natural tan-like appearance without sun exposure

      Significant and proved photoprotection to UVA due to the cutaneous pigmentation induced by DHA

      Incorporation in skin care formulations for daily use to prepare or to prolong the suntan.

FORMULATION GUIDELINES

 

*

Avoid amines and elevated temperatures

*

Ensure pH range at 2.0-4.0

*

Prevent from contact with α-Hydroxy acids, oxides like iron or zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, phosphoric acid esters and their salts

*

Beware of high amounts of gel formers (e.g. Carbomers, Xanthan gum) or high amounts of ethanol

*

Keep buffers at a minimum

*

Preferable preservatives are phenoxyethanol and parabens.

 

 

 

DOSAGE

 

Ca. 2-5% in day care applications.

Ca.  5-8% in classical self-tanning products.

Ca.  8-15% in spray-tanning applications.

 

 

 

PROCESSING

 

DHA should be processed cold (<35°C) and is incorporated into the aqueous phase or into the finished formulation. Slightly acidic pH of ca.4, ensures stability of DHA.
